BEAU Student Tells Stories through Comic and Sequential Art
McLean Paul is currently earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in comic and sequential art within Broadview Entertainment Arts University’s (BEAU) visual design program. McLean chose to attend BEAU because he wanted to follow a career path that aligned with his passion.
“Comic books, concept art, and illustration is what I love, and I want to be part of that world,” he says. “BEAU gives me that opportunity.”
McLean appreciates the support he receives from everyone in the BEAU community.
“You’re able to bounce ideas off of your peers and get feedback from other artists,” he explains. “The instructors bring in real world experience and information to help you succeed in school and out in the real world after we graduate.”
McLean also likes that the BEAU campus is located in the heart of such an artistic city.
“[The creative community in Salt Lake City] is very similar to that at BEAU – very diverse. There has even been an increase of video game companies, television, movies and other creative fields that have come to Salt Lake due to the creativity here.”
McLean has already been able to take advantage of all the opportunities the community has to offer, such as recently having his artwork displayed at Salt Lake Comic Con. After graduation, he plans to find a job where he can use his skills to jumpstart an audience’s imagination.
“I have a passion for illustration and telling stories. I really want to work in a creative environment. Whether that’s comic books, concept art or illustrations for books and magazines – I am up for anything, as long as I can use my talents and creativity,” explains McLean. “As I see it, the possibilities for me are endless. There is nothing I can’t achieve with hard work, determination, talent and creativity.”
