Winners Announced for Comic Book Drawing Contest

Silence… except for the sound of pencil scratches. That’s all that could be heard during this year’s second annual comic book drawing contest.


Best Art category winner: Arthur Prothero

The contest was held during and in celebration of Salt Lake City’s Comic Convention, which took place ealier in September.

For the contest, BEAU invited all students and community members to showcase their talents by creating four pages of comic art in eight hours.

In recognition of the hard work and skill needed, there were three winners identified.

The Best Art category winner went to Arthur Prothero, who won a $20.00 gift certificate from Dr. Volts, a pack of 11”x 17” comic book paper and a $20 gift certificate from BEAU.


Best Story category winner: Andrew Adams

The Best Story category winner went to Andrew Adams, who won a $20 gift certificate from Black Cat Comics, a pack of 11” x 17” comic book paper and a $20 gift certificate from BEAU.

The Judges’ Choice award went to Chase Laughlin, who received a $20 gift certificate from BEAU.

Garrick Dean, program chair of comic and sequential art and organizer of the event had this to say: “Thanks to all the participants for attending and drawing in the Four Pages in Eight Hours Comic Book Competition here at BEAU. We are so grateful to have the students and the public participate in that event. We had wonderful art produced and I am excited to see the final printed results. Thank you again everyone.”

All contestants will have their art printed in the next issue of BEAU’s comic book.
