There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon for Broadview Entertainment Arts University (BEAU). One of them is the Kickstarter campaign BEAU is launching to make a video game with local animation house, Track 36 Studios.
Track 36 Studios and BEAU will be launching their Kickstarter for The Adventures of Sancho-n-Rusimus, a side-scrolling puppet video game that utilizes motion capture technology.
The game features the puppets Sancho and Rusimus, two best friends who inherit an ancient arcade that ends up invading their dreams. Players guide Sancho and Rusimus through dream levels that play off of their anxieties and fears.
During their whimsically morbid adventures through dungeons and bathrooms, players’ will battle possessed toilets and evil giant marshmallows with flaming toilet paper guns and attack spatulas.
Each level encounters various enemies, puzzles and defeating a master boss (Land Sharks anyone?). Players will be boosted with various armor and power-ups, including the very powerful (if not incredibly invasive) giant human ‘helping hand’.
The game harnesses the power of motion capture technology but uses it to morph puppets into digitally enhanced characters. This project is also uniting industry professionals from a range of backgrounds to create the game.
Founder of Track 36 Studios, Russ Francis (Advent Rising, Bloodrayne 2), is leading the development of the project along with Shane Olson, a lead modeler at Disney Interactive (Disney Infinity).
The Amazing Rando from Mystery Science Theater 3000 is tech directing the game. The team also consists of a clinical mental health counselor (puppets can be used for good), a teacher and students.
“We’re looking forward to expand on the Sancho and Rusimus universe by introducing their adventures that will allow people to create a personal connection with the characters,” says developer Russ Francis. “We’re excited to work on a game that can unite the entire family and promote the puppet world.”
Track 36 Studios is a premiere motion capture studio in Murray, Utah. Track 36 focuses on body and face motion capture, animatics and animated film production. BEAU is an applied arts university in Salt Lake City, Utah, specializing in visual and audio arts.
