Instructor Brings a Taste of Hollywood to BEAUThe instructors at BEAU have a passion for their craft. A lot of them have dedicated their entire career to it. For some, like Digital Video Instructor James Elam, he’s devoted his entire life. James started making movies around the age of eight when his dad made him a magic lantern zoetrope. He completed his first feature, “The Closet Killer” by the age of 16. He went on to study film and video at Boise State University and Vancouver Film School and finally, Columbia College Hollywood where he graduated with a 4.0 and valedictorian of his class.
James has run his own production company and managed a studio in Los Angeles as a Studio Director. He’s been able to run all aspects of pre- and post-production. He has worked on everything from corporate videos, interactive games and feature and indie films. His work as a Segment Producer in Hollywood gave him the opportunity to work behind the scenes with notable film and television luminaries such as Joel Silver, Samuel Jackson and Matthew Fox.
His past work led him to film original works with Michael Welch (Twilight, Star Trek Insurrection), and also Isaac Singleton Jr., (Pirates of the Caribbean, Anger Management). James filmed a television pilot with Isaac titled, “The Pondering Box,” that’s in contention for worldwide distribution. The series’ first season is projected for broadcast television production.
James recently returned from a film shoot in Africa, where he was a camera operator for a self-reliance project. James has a beautiful wife and three awesome children and loves spending time with them. He loves the outdoors, skiing, camping and hiking. When he’s not working, well, he’s working, either on a script, book, film or website.
