BEAU has become a hub of activity for the local art scene here in Salt Lake City. This is especially true for the Drawing Lab that is run and directed by BEAU’s Program Chair of Comic and Sequential Art Garrick Dean. For people who are wondering about BEAU or people who just want to get better at drawing, Garrick writes the following:
On Friday nights at the BEAU campus, we offer life drawing lab with live models. This is an opportunity for students to come and draw from a live model to enhance their drawing ability. The tradition of drawing from a live model in invaluable, as it allows you to see the true dimensional construct of the human form and also how the human body sits in space.
BEAU is one of only three venues in the Salt Lake Valley that offers live models. We partner with Sketch Cabaret who provide great models of all shapes and sizes. We do cater to the entertainment art crowd, so not only do we have nude models but we have models in costumes so artists can work with materials and different surfaces.
This is a service we offer to our students for free, but we also open the BEAU doors to the public to join us as well. We have always had great local activity, and we see many students from other campuses come to BEAU to use this service. The fee for the public is $10.00 and students from other colleges with ID are $5.00.
One of the purposes of this lab is to enhance the artistic community here in Salt Lake City by hosting this event, and we hope that more artists will have more opportunities to draw live models.
Please feel free to contact Garrick Dean, program chair of comic and sequential art, with any questions. Hope to see you there.
