On Thursday, Nov. 28, students at Broadview Entertainment Arts University (BEAU) put together a show that showcased their musical talent, gave them real-world experience as an extension of the classroom, and raised some food for a local food bank.
Students from the music production and engineering program teamed up with students from entertainment design and digital video programs to bring an exciting event to life. Everyone had a great time and it was a great way to bring the classroom to life in a real life venue for a community audience.
The lineup for the event included two music areas at Kafeneio Coffeehouse in South Salt Lake City. There was an acoustic area for the singer-songwriters in the group. Most of the performers were from BEAU, but the students also recruited local artists, just like a promoter would do for a concert.
Katie Fechner, one of the student organizers of the event said, “I found it a a blast of fun working with every one of the students from BEAU that I would consider a friend now and all the AMAZING local and student artists that did a performance. Everyone made it possible for the food drive/concert, ‘I Feed on Sound,’ at Kafeneio. We had a lot of food that was donated to the Utah food bank which will help feed hungry family in the community. I hope I get an opportunity to do something like this again in the future because of how great an experience we all had together.”
The back of the coffee shop has a big room, where we had the rock bands kicking out some great music. Several people worked the sound, changed the equipment for each performer and made sure the concert stayed on schedule.
The promotion team did a great job of preparing a flyer and contacting all the BEAU and Broadview University-West Jordan students to make this event a success. The coffee house saw a major increase in the volume of patrons and stated that it was because of the great job the students did to get the word out to the school and the community.
BEAU would like to thank the Kafeneio Coffeehouse and all the students who participated in the event.
